one of the few rap songs to feature steel drums?
Somehow I'm not sure this is true at all...

"Superman that ho" & Lyrics in general
I would fix these problems myself but Poison the Well keeps deleting them.--Cartman0052007 19:32, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
It would be beneficial to the article if it stated what exactly is meant by "superman that ho." That lyric of the song has been met with a significant amount of controversy. --PiMaster3 talk 19:18, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
You don't want to know 67.177.250.167 03:02, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. I have tried to add it but it keeps being deleted.--Cartman005 02:36, 9 November 2007 (UTC) If you pay attention the actual lyrics are not superman that ho its superman that ooo, which is probily a good chance why it gets deleted.
Regarding the lyrics I've been trying to incorporate links to two op-ed pieces that deal with the lyrics. Both op-eds are from the same student paper, but I think they should be included somewhere because Crank That is their primary subject. I've tried creating a section about the lyrics and referencing the op-eds but was deleted, then I tried to add them as external links but these were deleted as well. I'm not sure how exactly to best add these links but I think they would be a good contribution to the Crank That entry. Also even though the second op-ed is satirical there are a lot of user comments that are serious. Superpesto (talk) 18:08, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- "Superman That Ho" Op-Ed that uses Crank That as an example of songs with misogynistic lyrics in September 28, 2007 issue of Student Life at Washington University in St. Louis
- "Supersoak That Ho A Reconsideration" A lighthearted satirical rebuttal of the above op-ed from October 1, 2007 issue of Student Life at Washington University in St. Louis
It's essentially a song about sexual assault. Isn't that relevant to the article? Taconium (talk)
Yes it is very important to the article and needs to be added. 18:56, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, this needs to be added to the article. This kind of music is poison for society, at least in the way I look at it. Making objectifying women OK with a catchy beat and slang no white person should know is still WRONG. I'm a white male, and this song is WRONG. It's catchy, I'll say that, but WRONG. Ignorance may be bliss, but EVERYONE should know what this song is REALLY about.PokeHomsar (talk) 13:50, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
according to this article, the lyric does not intend the sexual connotation that has been later applied to it. Atokoy (talk) 18:14, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
Remixes
References to the major remixes like "Crank that Spiderman" which has actually been played in clubs, unlike the minor ones that are listed now
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKQgDY0pZ68
There has been a remix by Experimental-Screamo band I Set My Friends On Fire. The song is called, "Crank That Calvary Boy"
There has been more remixes to the song Crank That such as
Crank Dat Cotton Gin
Crank Dat Homeless Man
Crank Dat Batman
Crank Dat Spiderman
Crank Dat Yank
Crank Dat Forrest Grump
Crank Dat Roosevelt NNOOOO u lied Crank Dat Neverland
The above remixes have now been addressed in the article. It should be noted that they are not remixes per se since many of them don't use anything from the song (Crank Dat Homeless Man, for example, is a parody, and many of the other sample the beat but have totally different lyrics). There are now two separate paragraphs, one on remixes and one on this new subgenre of "Crank Dat"s. If you feel this is a bad system for some reason, please discuss here before changing it back! Also, I recently found that the remix information was somewhat inaccurate. For example, the Travis Barker remix doesn't feature any one of the half-dozen people it listed--it's just Travis Barker. If I'm wrong about this, please put the information back with references to Youtube videos or whatever =) Chrysaora (talk) 17:57, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
I Set My Friends On Fire was recently signed to some label (Epitaph Records) and so I think it is a worthy mention to list their remix "Crank Dat Calvary Boy" in the main article for it is possible it may show up on their first CD. mcnichoj (talk) 05:18, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
I think something should be added about the Travis Barker Remix. It uses the original vocals and was released through iTunes, so I think think that qualifies it as a legitimate remix. (72.44.39.66 (talk) 01:41, 5 July 2008 (UTC))
There is even an official Remix with German rapper 'Chakuza'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.134.85.87 (talk) 10:26, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Move
I have moved it to Crank That, as there is no original meaning for the use besides the song and the dance. Ellomate (talk) 00:22, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
Are we sure about that? Crank dat Soulja Boy seems to reference "Crank dat Roosevelt" and "Crank dat Robocop"...although maybe it is simply referencing the Roosevelt and the Robocop sans Crank dat. Anyway, even if the term had no meaning before the song, it certainly has a meaning outside of the song now--see Remixes section. If anyone knows better, please let us know! Chrysaora (talk) 17:59, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Parodies
Soemthing should be added that this song has been extensive parodied. Some of the parodies have +500,000 views on youtube include Crank that Micheal Jackson and Kosha Boy..
This sounds kind of opinionated to me...
"The song is easily recognized with its steel pan melody, highly repetetive rhythm, and incoherent lyrics."
Alright so I admit I hate this song with a passion, but 1.) repetitive is spelled wrong, and 2.) sounds more opinionated than factual, mostly concerning the last two clauses. I'm no wikipedia expert so maybe someone else could correct it to something less... informal and 'hating'. Akiratheoni (talk) 02:26, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
The song sucks, its repetative and pointless, what is he actually trying to say? other than to "crank" something. It has no message, its not political or anything. It should be destroyed. 212.219.220.125 (talk) 15:54, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Content of song
Shouldn't something be said about the content of the song? Mr Which 20:49, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
All you need to do is look up 'superman' on urban dictionary and the whole song makes a lot more sense. Be aware that this interpretation of the lyrics is not entirely pleasant. 81.101.128.117 (talk) 22:56, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
I agree that there definitely SHOULD be something in the article about the song's contents. However, the Urban Dictionary's definition should be considered in light of this seeming refutation. Why a section regarding the song's content and controversy not been included?Atokoy (talk) 18:19, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
On http://www.metrolyrics.com/crank-that-soulja-boy-lyrics-soulja-boy.html the lyrics are "Watch me crank dat Soulja Boy / Then Superman dat oh". Who listens to the song can clearly hear "Oh", not "Ho". I think it means something like: "Watch me dance this dance, then make it special." Of course, the controversy can be included in the text of the article. Italrob-nl (talk) 14:20, 28 July 2008 (UTC) Further along in the lyrics, Robocop is referred to. This indicates that Superman also features as a superhero. unless someone digs up some weird street definition for Robocop.
